Conor Joseph Doyle (born October 13, 1991) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a midfielder, winger, or forward. He currently represents South Georgia Tormenta FC in USL League One, where he signed a two-year contract ahead of the 2024 season. A product of the Dallas Texans Soccer Club and Creighton University, Doyle began his senior career abroad in England before returning to the United States to compete across Major League Soccer and several lower-division clubs.

Conor Joseph Doyle was born on October 13, 1991, in McKinney, Texas, in the United States. He grew up in a sporting household, with his Irish-born father David having played professional indoor soccer in North America. As of 2012, David Doyle served as the head soccer coach at Flower Mound High School in Flower Mound, Texas, giving Conor an early and consistent exposure to the game.
Doyle attended McKinney Boyd High School, where he played youth soccer for the Dallas Texans Soccer Club, one of the most respected development programs in Texas. He graduated from McKinney Boyd in December 2009 in order to enroll early at Creighton University, intending to play college soccer for the Bluejays. His family background and youth environment laid a strong foundation for a career in the sport.
Path to Soccer
Although Doyle enrolled at Creighton University and appeared in all seven spring exhibition matches for the Bluejays in 2010, helping the team to a perfect 7–0–0 record, his college career was short-lived. During the summer of 2009, a Derby County scout discovered him at a tournament, leading to a three-day trial with the English Football League Championship side.
Doyle impressed during the trial and returned for a three-week trial toward the end of his spring 2010 semester at Creighton. His performances convinced the Derby coaching staff, and on August 6, 2010, he signed a two-year contract with the Rams, becoming part of a professional pathway in England. Early Career (2010–2013)
Doyle made his full debut as a second-half substitute in a 1–0 League Cup defeat away to Crewe Alexandra on August 10, 2010, and his first league appearance came four days later in a 2–1 home loss to Cardiff City in the Championship. He featured 14 times for the first team during his debut season, starting five matches and quickly establishing himself as a promising young forward.
During the 2011–12 preseason, Derby manager Nigel Clough experimented with Doyle in a holding midfield role as the team adopted a new 4-1-3-2 formation. Reduced opportunities followed due to the emergence of Mason Bennett and Callum Ball, and a torn hamstring in March 2012 kept him out for several weeks. Although Clough expected him to blossom in 2012–13, Doyle featured only three times for the first team before being made available for a loan move in May 2013.
Derby County Breakthrough (2010–2013)
At Derby County, Doyle earned the nickname of an American prospect in the English second tier, becoming one of the rare U.S. teenagers signed directly from youth soccer to the Championship. He signed a two-year deal reportedly worth about $54,000 per year, and his debut season brought 14 appearances across all competitions. His early league debut against Cardiff City established him as one of the youngest Americans to play in the Championship at the time.
By 2012–13, however, Doyle’s first-team minutes dwindled to just three appearances, with his last league outing of the campaign coming in September. In July 2013, Doyle joined D.C. United on a loan that ran to the end of the MLS season. He made his debut on July 27, 2013, starting against the New England Revolution, and scored the game-winning goal from the bench against the Montreal Impact on August 3, 2013 — his first senior goal since turning professional in 2010. Doyle was part of the D.C. United squad that won the 2013 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
After making his move to D.C. United permanent, Doyle was used primarily as a reserve striker behind Fabian Espindola and Eddie Johnson during the 2014 season. A torn meniscus in his right knee during training on August 5, 2014, ended his season early. He returned in 2015 to score his first professional goal in nearly two years in a 3–1 win over Chicago Fire on June 3, 2015, and added a spectacular long-range strike against the same opponent three weeks later.
