Evan Sisk Bio
Samuel Evan Sisk, known professionally as Evan Sisk, is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates of Major League Baseball (MLB). He has previously played in MLB for the Kansas City Royals. Drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in 2018 after his junior season at the College of Charleston, Sisk worked his way through the minor leagues for several organizations before reaching the majors in 2025. He now wears No. 48 for the Pirates.
Early Life and Background
Samuel Evan Sisk was born on April 23, 1997, in the United States. He grew up in Richburg, South Carolina, a small community in Chester County, where he attended Lewisville High School. Sisk developed his pitching skills in that small-town setting, balancing his time in the classroom with the demands of a competitive high school baseball schedule.
Following high school, Sisk continued his baseball career at the College of Charleston, a program known for producing professional-caliber arms on the East Coast. As a junior in 2018, he went 10–3 with a 2.96 ERA over 91 and one-third innings, a dominant season that placed him on professional scouts’ radar. That performance ultimately convinced the St. Louis Cardinals to select him in the 2018 MLB Draft.
Path to Baseball
Sisk’s path to professional baseball followed the traditional college route. His standout junior year at the College of Charleston turned a promising amateur career into a professional opportunity, and the Cardinals’ investment in him reflected the consistency and polish he had shown over three college seasons.
After being selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 16th round, with the 483rd overall pick of the 2018 Major League Baseball draft, Sisk signed and began his climb through the minor leagues. The decision to forgo his senior season was vindicated when he posted a 1.76 ERA across 30 and two-thirds innings in his first professional stint with the Johnson City Cardinals.
Evan Sisk Career
Early Career (2018–2020)
Sisk made his professional debut in 2018 with the Johnson City Cardinals, where he excelled with a 1.76 ERA over 30 and two-thirds innings, signaling a smooth transition to the wood bat. The following year, he joined the Peoria Chiefs, working primarily as a reliever and going 3–6 with a 3.25 ERA over 61 innings. His development was briefly interrupted in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the minor league season, costing him a full year of game experience.
When play resumed in 2021, Sisk opened the year back with Peoria before earning a midseason promotion to the Double-A Springfield Cardinals. His reliability in the bullpen, including strikeout totals that climbed throughout his minor league tenure, helped establish him as a left-handed relief prospect capable of handling advanced competition.
Minnesota Twins Era (2021–2022)
On July 30, 2021, the Cardinals traded Sisk and John Gant to the Minnesota Twins in exchange for J.A. Happ and cash. He was assigned to the Double-A Wichita Wind Surge, where he finished the 2021 season. Across 39 relief appearances that year, split between Peoria, Springfield, and Wichita, Sisk went 3–1 with a 3.91 ERA and 69 strikeouts over 53 innings. He also pitched in the Arizona Fall League for the Scottsdale Scorpions that offseason, gaining additional exposure against high-level competition.
In 2022, Sisk opened the year with Wichita and was promoted to the Triple-A St. Paul Saints in mid-June. Over 50 relief appearances between the two clubs, he went 5–1 with a 1.57 ERA and 76 strikeouts across 63 innings. The performance made him one of the organization’s most effective relief arms, though it did not lead to a major league call-up with Minnesota.
Kansas City Royals Era (2023–2025)
On January 23, 2023, Sisk was traded to the Kansas City Royals alongside Steven Cruz in exchange for Michael A. Taylor, beginning a new chapter in his career. He spent the 2023 season with the Triple-A Omaha Storm Chasers, going 2–4 with a 6.34 ERA and 62 strikeouts over 61 innings across 58 appearances. The Royals added Sisk to their 40-man roster on November 1, 2024, to prevent him from reaching minor league free agency, signaling organizational confidence in his future.
That confidence paid off in 2024, when Sisk put together a bounce-back campaign with Omaha, going 6–2 with a 1.57 ERA, 81 strikeouts, and 15 saves across 57 and one-third innings. Sisk was optioned to Triple-A Omaha to begin the 2025 season, but on April 13, 2025, he was promoted to the major leagues for the first time. He made his MLB debut on April 15 at Yankee Stadium, pitching one scoreless inning in which he recorded all three outs via strikeout. Across five appearances with the Royals, he posted a 1.69 ERA with 11 strikeouts over five and one-third innings.
Pittsburgh Pirates Era (2025–Present)
On July 31, 2025, Sisk and Callan Moss were traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for pitcher Bailey Falter, giving him a fresh start in a new organization. Less than three weeks later, on August 18, Sisk recorded his first career major league win, tossing a scoreless inning of relief against the Toronto Blue Jays. He made 14 appearances for Pittsburgh down the stretch of 2025, compiling a 1–1 record and a 4.38 ERA with a 14-to-5 strikeout-to-walk ratio across 12 and one-third innings pitched.
Sisk was optioned to the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians to begin the 2026 season. Through June 21, 2026, his MLB career statistics included a 2–1 win-loss record, a 2.44 ERA, and 67 strikeouts, reflecting his growing role in the Pirates’ bullpen plans.
Evan Sisk Family
Personal Life
Samuel Evan Sisk, who goes by Evan, has kept much of his personal life private. Public information about his immediate family, marital status, and residence is limited, and he tends to keep the spotlight on his work between the lines rather than his life away from baseball.
2025 Season Performance
The 2025 season was a breakthrough year for Sisk, as he finally reached the major leagues after seven years in the minor leagues. He debuted with the Kansas City Royals in mid-April, pitching in five games out of the bullpen and allowing only a handful of runs while striking out 11 batters in just over five innings of work. The Royals used him primarily in low-leverage relief before deciding to move him at the trade deadline.
Sisk’s July 31 trade to the Pittsburgh Pirates gave him an extended look in a new organization, and he quickly delivered his first career MLB win on August 18 against the Toronto Blue Jays. Across 14 appearances with the Pirates in the season’s final months, he posted a 1–1 record, a 4.38 ERA, and a strong 14-to-5 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 12 and one-third innings, building momentum heading into 2026.
