Jake Keegan Bio
Jake Keegan (born September 7, 1990) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a forward. Standing 5 feet 9 inches tall, he is best known for a journeyman career that has taken him across the United States, Germany, Ireland, and Canada, competing in the lower divisions of American soccer as well as the top flights of European leagues.
Keegan currently plays in USL League One, the third tier of the American soccer pyramid. Over more than a decade as a professional, he has built a reputation as a reliable goal scorer and a steady contributor at clubs where he has often served as one of the team’s primary attacking outlets.
Early Life and Background
Jake Keegan was born on September 7, 1990, in Stormville, New York, a small hamlet in Dutchess County. Growing up in the Hudson Valley region, he was introduced to soccer at a young age and developed his skills in a community with a strong youth sports culture.
He attended John Jay High School in East Fishkill, New York, where he played four seasons of varsity soccer. During his high school career, he helped the team win the 2008 Class AA Section 1 Championship and advance to the New York State Final Four. Outside of school, Keegan played club soccer for the East Fishkill Thunder, one of the most successful teams in the club’s history, winning the 2009 Eastern New York State Cup and the Region 1 Championship before finishing third at the USYS National Championships. He also won a gold medal at the 2008 Empire State Games as a member of the Hudson Valley squad.
Path to Soccer
After high school, Keegan took his game to the college level, playing four seasons of NCAA Division I soccer at Binghamton University. He became the school’s all-time leading Division I goal scorer, a mark that reflected his consistent finishing ability over his college years.
While still in college, Keegan began his professional development in the USL Premier Development League, playing for the Westchester Flames and the Jersey Express between 2011 and 2013. He also trained with clubs in Israel, Austria, and Germany. Early Career (2011-2013)
Keegan’s first steps as a paid player came in the lower tiers of American soccer. He spent the 2011 and 2012 seasons with the Westchester Flames before moving to the Jersey Express for the 2012-2013 campaign, gaining valuable experience in the Premier Development League.
On September 1, 2013, he signed his first professional contract abroad, joining 1. FCA Darmstadt of the Verbandsliga, the sixth tier of German soccer. That same year, he had been drafted by the Philadelphia Union in the MLS Supplemental Draft, but he opted to pursue playing time overseas. Before joining Darmstadt, he trained with Maccabi Haifa in Israel, FC Lustenau 07 and SC Austria Lustenau in Austria, Harrisburg City Islanders and the New York Cosmos in the United States, and Usiner TSG in Germany.
Galway United Era (2014-2015)
On January 29, 2014, Keegan signed with Galway F.C. of the League of Ireland First Division, the second tier of Irish soccer. The club was newly formed following the bankruptcy of the previous Galway United in 2011, and Keegan became one of the team’s early signings.
He re-signed with the club in 2015 after it earned promotion to the League of Ireland Premier Division, the top flight in Irish soccer. The club also adopted the historic Galway United name back for the 2015 season. Across his time in Galway, Keegan established himself as a consistent contributor in Irish football.
FC Edmonton and St Patrick’s Athletic (2016-2018)
On December 1, 2015, Keegan moved to the North American Soccer League, signing with Canadian side FC Edmonton. He spent the 2016 and 2017 seasons there, continuing his career in North America.
On February 4, 2018, he returned to Ireland, signing with St Patrick’s Athletic of the League of Ireland Premier Division. Keegan finished the 2018 season as Pats’ top scorer, recording nine league goals and 12 in all competitions, a campaign that ranks among the most productive of his career.
USL League One Tenure (2019-Present)
On January 10, 2019, Keegan signed with Greenville Triumph SC of USL League One, the third division in the United States. Over two seasons with the Triumph, he scored 14 goals in all competitions. After a single season with Forward Madison FC in 2021, where he made 23 appearances and scored six goals, he returned to Greenville Triumph on December 21, 2021.
Keegan remained in USL League One on December 13, 2022, when he was announced as One Knoxville SC’s third signing ahead of their expansion season. He made 30 appearances and scored six goals in 2023. On February 2, 2024, he was loaned to Northern Colorado Hailstorm, where he played the rest of the 2024 season, scoring two goals in 33 appearances and helping the Hailstorm win the 2024 USL Cup. On March 18, 2025, he signed with USL League One expansion team Portland Hearts of Pine, scoring his first goal for the club on April 2, 2025, against Hartford Athletic in the U.S. Open Cup. Most recently, on February 11, 2026, Keegan signed with Corpus Christi FC as part of their inaugural USL League One season.
