Julian Hill Bio

Julian Marquez Hill (born July 9, 2000) is an American professional football tight end for the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Campbell Fighting Camels and was signed by the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in 2023. Hill’s journey to professional football is marked by resilience and determination, overcoming significant challenges early in his life to achieve his dreams in the NFL.

Early Life and Background

Julian Hill was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Between the ages of five and ten, he faced homelessness while living with his biological mother. At the age of ten, he was adopted by Paul and Shannon Schaeffer, who played a crucial role in introducing him to sports. Hill attended Pine Forest High School, where he excelled as a multi-sport athlete, participating in football, baseball, and basketball. As a freshman, he took on the role of starting quarterback, completing 52% of his passes for 927 yards and six touchdowns. However, his sophomore season was cut short due to a torn ACL, which posed a significant setback in his athletic career.
Despite the injury, Hill made a strong comeback during his junior year, throwing for 1,642 yards and 17 touchdowns. Unfortunately, he suffered another torn ACL in the season finale, which caused him to miss his entire senior year. This injury led many college recruiters to lose interest in him. Nevertheless, Hill recovered in time for basketball season, where he caught the attention of a coach from Campbell University, a Division I FCS football program. He joined the team as a preferred walk-on and transitioned from quarterback to tight end.

Path to American Football

Hill’s college football career began at Campbell University, where he played all 11 games as a true freshman. In his second season, he again appeared in all 11 games, recording six receptions for 85 yards. The COVID-19-shortened 2020 season saw him post six catches for 102 yards, earning second-team All-Big South Conference honors. During his junior year, he led the Big South with 34 receptions for 367 yards and two touchdowns, receiving first-team all-conference recognition. In his final season, Hill continued to excel, achieving a third all-conference selection with 38 catches for 659 yards and five touchdowns. Over his collegiate career, he accumulated a total of 85 receptions for 1,218 yards and seven touchdowns in 48 games, starting the last 26 of those games.
