Path to American Football

Awosika played college football for the University at Buffalo, where he redshirted during his freshman year. In his redshirt-freshman year, he participated in five games as a reserve offensive tackle. His performance improved significantly in subsequent years; he started all 14 games in his sophomore year and 11 games in his junior year. During his junior year, he was named team captain, and in his senior year, he started seven games and earned accolades such as first-team All-MAC and a Football Writers Association of America second-team All-American. After concluding his collegiate career, he decided to forgo his remaining eligibility and declare for the NFL draft.

After going undrafted in the 2021 NFL draft, Kayode Awosika signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent. He was given the second-most guaranteed money among the Eagles’ undrafted free agents, which underscored the team’s belief in his potential. Awosika was waived on August 31, 2021, but re-signed to the practice squad the following day. He made his NFL debut on January 8, 2022, in the Eagles’ week 18 game against the Dallas Cowboys, becoming the first Maple Grove High School alumnus to play in the NFL.

Breakthrough (2022-Present)

On September 15, 2022, Awosika was signed by the Detroit Lions off the Eagles’ practice squad. He was waived on August 29, 2023, but quickly re-signed to the practice squad. His perseverance paid off when he was signed to the active roster on September 19, 2023.
