Kendall Sheffield was born in Missouri City, Texas. He attended Thurgood Marshall High School, where he excelled in both football and track. During his senior year, Sheffield was a first-team all-state pick, recording impressive statistics that included 39 tackles, three blocked field goals, seven pass break-ups, two interceptions, three fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles, and one touchdown. His athletic prowess extended beyond football; he was also a standout track athlete, finishing second in the 110 meters hurdles at the 2013 University Interscholastic League Class 4A state championship and winning multiple titles in subsequent years. Sheffield was recognized as the Gatorade Texas Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year in 2014. Considered a five-star recruit by ESPN, he was ranked as the No. 3 cornerback in the nation in 2015 and committed to the University of Alabama during the Under Armour All-America Game.
