Early Life and Background

Kilian Zierer was born on February 24, 2000, in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. Growing up, he played soccer before first discovering American football during a visit to the United States at the age of 15. Inspired by the sport, he decided to try out American football at age 16, joining the Munich Cowboys and playing two seasons for their under-19 squad as a tight end and wide receiver. He later transitioned to the offensive line and played a season with the Allgäu Comets, further honing his skills. Zierer’s journey into American football was supported by Gridiron Imports, a non-profit organization that assists international players in pursuing football opportunities in the United States. This support helped him make the decision to play college football in the U.S., where he began his collegiate career at the College of the Canyons in 2018.

Path to American Football

At the College of the Canyons, Kilian Zierer quickly made a name for himself. In his first year, he was named all-conference at left tackle, contributing to the Cougars’ perfect record of 10–0 and their championship in the SCFA National Division, Northern League. His performance garnered attention, and he was ranked the best junior college recruit at his position by Rivals.com. Zierer repeated his all-conference honors in his second year, helping the Cougars secure a second consecutive league title. Following his success at the junior college level, Zierer committed to play for the Auburn Tigers. Unfortunately, he suffered a torn ACL towards the end of his second junior college season, which sidelined him for the entire 2020 season at Auburn. He began the 2021 season as a backup but eventually became a starter, playing nine games that season. In 2022, he started all 12 games and was invited to the 2023 East–West Shrine Bowl, showcasing his readiness for the professional level.
