Kyle Henry Teel is an American professional baseball catcher for the Chicago White Sox of Major League Baseball (MLB). He played college baseball for the Virginia Cavaliers and was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the first round of the 2023 MLB draft. Early Life and Background
Kyle Teel was born on February 15, 2002, in Ridgewood, New Jersey, and grew up in Mahwah, New Jersey. He attended Mahwah High School, where he was a standout athlete. On the baseball team, Teel primarily played shortstop, but also took on roles as an outfielder, pitcher, and catcher. During his junior year, he achieved an impressive .574 batting average in 61 at-bats, hitting eight home runs and driving in 31 runs. In addition to baseball, Teel was also the starting quarterback for the Mahwah football team. After graduating from high school, Teel played summer collegiate baseball for the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters of the Northwoods League, where he posted a .258 batting average with a .348 on-base percentage and a .392 slugging percentage in 97 at-bats. He was considered a top high school catching prospect in the 2020 MLB draft but opted out of the draft to pursue his college career.

Teel continued his baseball journey at the University of Virginia, where he played as a designated hitter, right fielder, and catcher during his freshman year. He signed with the Red Sox on July 21, 2023, reportedly for a $4 million signing bonus. Teel made his professional debut on August 3, 2023, in the Florida Complex League with the FCL Red Sox and was quickly promoted to the High-A Greenville Drive on August 9. He began the 2024 season with the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs, where he was ranked as the Red Sox’ number three minor-league prospect by Baseball America.
