Lamont Rockarius Gaillard (born February 8, 1996) is an American professional football center. He played college football at the University of Georgia and was selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Gaillard has played for several teams in the National Football League (NFL) and currently plays for the San Antonio Brahmas in the XFL.
Early Life and Background
Lamont Gaillard was born and raised in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He attended Pine Forest High School, where he played defensive tackle for the Trojans. Gaillard had a standout high school career, earning first-team All-Mid-South 4-A Conference honors as a junior after recording 100 tackles and four sacks. Rated as a four-star prospect by recruiting services, he committed to play college football at the University of Georgia during his senior year. Gaillard also participated in the 2014 Under Armour All-America Game, showcasing his talent on a national stage.
Path to American Football
At the University of Georgia, Lamont Gaillard spent five seasons with the Bulldogs football team. He redshirted his true freshman season and transitioned from defensive line to offensive line during this period. Gaillard made his debut in two games at right guard in his first season of play. As a redshirt sophomore, he started all 13 games for Georgia before moving to center prior to the 2017 season. Lamont Gaillard was selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, being the 179th overall pick. The Cardinals acquired this selection from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in exchange for the rights to head coach Bruce Arians. Gaillard signed a rookie contract with the team on May 9, 2019, and spent his rookie season on the 53-man roster, although he did not appear in any regular-season games. He made his NFL debut on September 13, 2020, in the season opener against the San Francisco 49ers, stepping in at center after an injury to starter Mason Cole. Gaillard made his first career start the following week against the Washington Football Team.
Breakthrough (2021-2022)
After his time with the Arizona Cardinals, Lamont Gaillard was claimed off waivers by the Cincinnati Bengals on July 22, 2021. He was waived shortly after but re-signed with the team’s practice squad. On February 15, 2022, he signed a reserve/future contract with the Bengals but was waived again on August 30, 2022. Later, on November 2, 2022, Gaillard joined the Miami Dolphins’ practice squad but was released on December 20, 2022. His journey continued as he signed with the DC Defenders of the XFL on December 18, 2023, where he was placed on injured reserve on May 28, 2024.
