Amanda Kathleen McGlynn (formerly Haught; born November 3, 1998) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a goalkeeper for the Utah Royals of the National Women’s Soccer League. She previously played for NJ/NY Gotham FC, winning the 2023 NWSL Championship. McGlynn played college soccer for the Virginia Tech Hokies, where she developed her skills and gained recognition as a talented goalkeeper.
Early Life and Background
Amanda Kathleen McGlynn was born in Jacksonville, Florida. Growing up in the American South, she attended Sandalwood High School, where she began to excel in soccer. Her talent earned her a scholarship to play at Virginia Tech, where she started as a goalkeeper during her four seasons. McGlynn was recognized as a back-to-back All-ACC first-team goalkeeper, showcasing her skills and dedication to the sport.
Path to Soccer
McGlynn registered for the 2020 NWSL College Draft in January 2020, where she was selected by Sky Blue FC with the 20th overall pick. Her journey in professional soccer began with this opportunity, leading her to join the team for the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup tournament. Although the 2020 NWSL season was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, McGlynn made her NWSL debut in a match against Kansas City NWSL on July 3, 2021.

After being drafted, McGlynn signed a one-year contract with Sky Blue FC in June 2020. Her early career was marked by limited appearances due to the pandemic, but she continued to develop her skills and gain experience. In 2021, she signed with Piteå IF of the Swedish Damallsvenskan, where she played all 26 matches in the 2022 season, achieving nine clean sheets and earning the 2022 Norrstjärnan award as the top women’s footballer in Norrbotten County.
Breakthrough (2023)
McGlynn returned to NJ/NY Gotham FC in January 2023, signing a two-year contract. She became the starting goalkeeper after an injury to Abby Smith and played a crucial role in the team’s success during the 2023 NWSL Championship, where Gotham FC claimed the title against OL Reign. Although she was sent off in the final moments of the match, her contributions throughout the season were vital to the team’s achievement.
