Mason Appleton began his professional career when he signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Winnipeg Jets in 2017. He attended the Jets’ training camp before the 2017–18 season and was reassigned to their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Manitoba Moose. Appleton quickly moved up the depth chart, starting the season centering the Moose’s fourth line before becoming a left winger on the top line. On October 21, 2017, he recorded his first career AHL goal on the power play as the Moose defeated the Iowa Wild. His impressive performance led to him being named CCM/AHL Player of the Week in November 2017.
