Early Life and Background

McKenzie Forbes was born in Los Angeles, California. She attended Folsom High School in Folsom, California, where she began to develop her skills in basketball. Forbes’ early exposure to the sport set the foundation for her future career as a professional player.

Path to Basketball

Forbes began her college basketball career with the California Golden Bears in 2018. After her freshman year, she transferred to Harvard University, where she intended to continue her basketball journey. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic led to the cancellation of the season at Harvard. During her junior year at Harvard, she averaged 14.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. After graduating from Harvard, she transferred to USC for the 2023–2024 season to further her basketball career.

McKenzie Forbes was drafted in the third round, 28th overall, by the Los Angeles Sparks in the 2024 WNBA draft. However, she was waived by the Sparks shortly after on May 12, 2024. Forbes then joined the Waverley Falcons of the NBL1 South for the 2024 season, where she played a crucial role in helping the team win the NBL1 South championship. In 16 games, she averaged 16.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.3 steals per game.

Breakthrough (2024)

After her time with the Waverley Falcons, Forbes moved to New Zealand to join the Mainland Pouākai of the Tauihi Basketball Aotearoa. On November 24, 2024, she made headlines by scoring a league-record 39 points in a game against the Tokomanawa Queens. Overall, in 13 games with the Mainland Pouākai, she averaged 18.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.1 steals per game.
