Nicholas J. Gargiulo was born on July 19, 2000, in Yorktown Heights, New York. He first played football in third grade and later became a standout athlete at Somers High School, where he excelled as a two-way lineman and also participated in basketball. Gargiulo earned a starting position as a sophomore and played a crucial role in helping his team win the state championship the following year. He received All-League and All-Section honors and was named All-State during his senior year, in addition to being recognized as the league’s most valuable player. Despite his accomplishments, Gargiulo was considered a zero-star recruit for college football, which led him to commit to play for the FCS Yale Bulldogs.
Path to American Football
Gargiulo redshirted his freshman year at Yale in 2018, participating in one game before winning the starting position at left tackle in the 2019 season. He started all ten games that year but faced setbacks when the 2020 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, he suffered a broken fibula and right ankle early in the season, which sidelined him for the remainder of the year. Gargiulo returned for the 2022 season, where he was named team captain and earned first-team All-Ivy League honors, along with being selected as All-New England by the New England Football Writers Association. In 2023, he opted to play a final season of college football and transferred to the South Carolina Gamecocks, where he started all twelve games, initially at left guard before moving to center.
