Early Life and Background

Nicholas Andres Martinez graduated from Belen Jesuit Preparatory School in Miami, Florida. He later enrolled at Fordham University, where he played college baseball for the Fordham Rams. During his time at Fordham, he had a 1–3 win–loss record with a 5.33 earned run average (ERA) in 15 games over two seasons as a relief pitcher. Primarily a second baseman, he batted .295 with four home runs, 66 runs batted in, 167 hits, and 22 stolen bases over three seasons and 148 games. In 2011, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Falmouth Commodores of the Cape Cod Baseball League and also participated in the New England Collegiate Baseball League for the Vermont Mountaineers, becoming the seventh Mountaineer to reach MLB.

Nicholas Martinez was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 18th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball draft, coming out of Fordham University. The following year, he played for the Single-A Hickory Crawdads, achieving an 8–6 record and a 4.83 ERA across 31 appearances. Early Career (2014-2017)

Nicholas Martinez was named the Texas Rangers’ fifth starter on March 26, 2014. He was formally selected to the 40-man roster on April 5 and promoted to the major leagues for the first time. In his first career start against the Tampa Bay Rays, he went six innings, striking out three and allowing three earned runs on four hits. Martinez finished his rookie season with a 5–12 record and a 4.55 ERA in 29 major league contests. In 2015, he posted an ERA of 3.96 and shared the major league lead in hit batsmen, with 13. He continued to pitch for the Rangers until 2017, when he recorded a 3–8 record and a 5.66 ERA with 67 strikeouts in 111.1 innings of work.

In 2023, he made 63 appearances, posting a 6–4 record and a 3.43 ERA with 106 strikeouts. On November 4, 2023, he declined his player option for the 2024 season and became a free agent.
