In 2023, he continued to develop his skills with Clearwater and the High-A Jersey Shore BlueClaws. Kemp’s performance in 2024 saw him playing with Clearwater, Jersey Shore, the Double-A Reading Fightin Phils, and the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs. His dedication to the game was evident as he participated in the Arizona Fall League for the Glendale Desert Dogs after the 2024 season. His hard work paid off when he was named the International League Player of the Month for April 2025, boasting an impressive batting line of .330/.421/.711 during that month.
Breakthrough (2025)
On June 7, 2025, Otto Kemp was selected to the 40-man roster and promoted to the major leagues for the first time, stepping in for an injured Bryce Harper. He made his MLB debut at third base, becoming the first undrafted position player to debut with the Philadelphia Phillies since Jeff Grotewold in 1992. In his debut game on June 9, Kemp recorded his first career hit with a single off pitcher Matthew Boyd and achieved his first multi-hit game, going 3-for-5 in a thrilling extra-inning victory against the Chicago Cubs. His first career home run came on June 27, a three-run shot against Atlanta Braves starter Bryce Elder. Over the course of his rookie season, Kemp made 62 appearances for the Phillies, finishing with a batting average of .234, eight home runs, 28 runs batted in (RBI), and two stolen bases. Unfortunately, his season was cut short when it was announced on October 17 that he would require surgeries to repair a fractured kneecap and damage in his left shoulder.
