Quandre Diggs (born January 22, 1993) is an American professional football defensive back who has built a respected career in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Texas Longhorns and was selected by the Detroit Lions in the sixth round (200th overall) of the 2015 NFL draft. Diggs began his professional career as a nickelback and cornerback before moving to safety, where he developed into one of the league’s most reliable playmakers in the secondary. A three-time Pro Bowl selection, he is known for his ball-hawking instincts, leadership and the knack for producing game-changing interceptions.

Early Life and Background

Quandre Diggs was born on January 22, 1993, in Angleton, Texas, a small community south of Houston. He grew up in a deeply athletic household that produced multiple professional football players, and his family background helped shape his competitive drive from an early age. He attended Angleton High School, where he earned four varsity letters in football, three in track and field, and two in basketball.

As a member of the Angleton Wildcats, Diggs played offense, defense and special teams, lining up at cornerback and safety on defense and at quarterback, kick returner and punt returner on offense and special teams. He earned second-team all-district honors on defense as a freshman before blossoming into one of the most decorated high school players in the region, picking up district MVP awards, all-state recognition as a kick returner and a reputation as a four-star recruit. Path to American Football

Diggs chose to continue his football career at the University of Texas, where he enrolled in 2011 and quickly forced his way into the Longhorns’ defensive plans. He played in every game as a freshman and started 11 of them at cornerback while also returning punts and kickoffs. His four interceptions tied the school record for picks by a freshman, and he was named the Big 12 Conference Defensive Freshman of the Year and a consensus Freshman All-American.

Across his next three college seasons under head coaches Mack Brown and Charlie Strong, Diggs became a fixture in the Texas secondary, starting 49 of 52 career games and leading the team in interceptions and pass breakups on multiple occasions. Early Career (2015–2016)

The Detroit Lions selected Quandre Diggs in the sixth round (200th overall) of the 2015 NFL draft, and the team signed him to a four-year rookie contract. He made his regular-season debut in the opener at the San Diego Chargers and earned his first career start in Week 7 against the Minnesota Vikings. Although he was initially a backup, his strong play in the slot soon pushed him into a starting nickelback role, and he finished his rookie campaign with 38 combined tackles and six pass deflections.

In his second season, Diggs continued to grow as a nickel defender and made 44 combined tackles in 12 games before a pectoral injury in Week 13 ended his year and sent him to injured reserve. Detroit Lions Breakthrough (2017–2019)

The 2017 season marked Quandre Diggs’ true emergence as a playmaker. After a position change to strong safety in December, he recorded three interceptions, including his first career pick off Jameis Winston, and a sack in his first three starts at the new position, helping stabilize the back end of the Lions’ defense. He finished the year with a career-high 55 combined tackles, nine pass deflections and three interceptions, and Detroit rewarded him with a three-year, $20.4 million contract extension in September 2018.

Signed long-term, Diggs became a full-time starter and defensive team captain. On September 10, 2018, he intercepted Sam Darnold’s first career pass attempt and returned it 37 yards for a touchdown on Monday Night Football, an early signature moment. He was traded to the Seattle Seahawks in October 2019 after starting the first four games of the season for Detroit.

Diggs debuted for the Seahawks in Week 10 of the 2019 season and immediately delivered, intercepting Jimmy Garoppolo and returning it 44 yards in an overtime win over the San Francisco 49ers. On November 7, 2025, he requested and was granted his release by Tennessee.

Seattle Seahawks Return (2025)

On November 26, 2025, Diggs returned to the Seattle Seahawks when the team signed him to the practice squad after safety Ty Okada suffered an oblique injury. He was elevated for one game in Week 12, playing four special teams snaps.
