Rece Xola Hinds (born September 5, 2000) is an American professional baseball outfielder for the Cincinnati Reds of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut in 2024. Known for his athleticism and power at the plate, Hinds has quickly become a notable player in the league, showcasing his skills in both the minor and major leagues.
Early Life and Background
Rece Hinds was born and raised in Niceville, Florida. He attended Niceville High School, where he first gained recognition for his baseball talent. During his sophomore and junior years, he was invited to participate in the prestigious Under Armour All-America Game. As a junior, Hinds had an impressive batting average of .494, hitting 12 home runs and earning an invitation to the Perfect Game All-American Classic. After his junior season, he transferred to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, where he continued to excel in baseball, batting .361 with 33 runs, 17 runs batted in (RBI), and 14 stolen bases in his only season at the academy.
Path to Baseball
Hinds was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the second round, with the 49th overall pick, of the 2019 Major League Baseball draft. After signing with the team, he was assigned to the Greeneville Reds of the Low-A Appalachian League, where he faced challenges, going 0-for-8 with two walks in his first ten plate appearances. The 2020 minor league season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but Hinds was added to the Reds’ alternate training site roster shortly after the start of the MLB season. Heading into the 2021 season, he was recognized as the best overall athlete in the Reds’ minor league system. Hinds spent the 2021 season with the Daytona Tortugas in the Low-A Southeast, where he recorded a batting line of .251/.319/.515 with ten home runs, 27 RBI, and six stolen bases over 43 games, despite missing time due to a torn meniscus.

Early Career (2024)
Hinds made his Major League Baseball debut in 2024. He began the season with the Triple-A Louisville Bats, where he played 77 games and posted a batting average of .216 with 13 home runs and 41 RBI. On July 8, 2024, he was promoted to the major leagues for the first time. Hinds made an immediate impact, hitting five home runs in his first six games. However, he was optioned back to the Louisville Bats on July 25 after a brief stint in the majors.
Breakthrough (2024)
Hinds’ breakthrough moment came during his rookie season when he demonstrated his potential as a power hitter. In a total of 24 games during his first MLB campaign, he batted .261 with a slugging percentage of .717, hitting five home runs and driving in 11 runs.
