Ryne Stanek made his Major League Baseball debut on May 14, 2017, after being promoted to the Tampa Bay Rays. He ended his rookie season with a 5.85 ERA in 21 appearances. In 2018, Stanek carved out a niche for himself as an opener, where he found success with his high-velocity fastball and splitter. He set an MLB record by throwing seven consecutive scoreless starts, despite only pitching 9+2⁄3 innings across those games.
