Samson Lionel Nacua (born January 20, 1998) is an American professional football wide receiver. He played college football for the Utah Utes and the BYU Cougars. Nacua has played for several teams in the United States Football League (USFL) and the National Football League (NFL), showcasing his skills as a wide receiver since entering the professional arena in 2022.
Early Life and Background
Samson Nacua was born in Las Vegas, Nevada, and attended Timpview High School in Provo, Utah. During his high school years, he developed a passion for football, which led him to pursue a collegiate career. After high school, Nacua committed to play college football for the Utah Utes as a walk-on, marking the beginning of his journey in the sport.
Path to American Football
Nacua’s college football career began at the University of Utah, where he earned a scholarship after redshirting his first season in 2016. He made significant contributions to the Utes over the years, recording impressive statistics, including 29 receptions for 294 yards and a touchdown in his first active season in 2017. After a successful tenure at Utah, he transferred to Brigham Young University (BYU) to play alongside his brother, Puka Nacua, further enhancing his skills and visibility in the sport.

Nacua’s professional career began in 2022 when he signed with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent after not being selected in the NFL Draft. Unfortunately, he was released during final roster cuts on August 30, 2022. Following his release, he joined the Pittsburgh Maulers of the USFL, where he played in two games, marking his first steps into professional football.
Breakthrough (2024)
In 2024, Nacua signed with the Michigan Panthers, where he made a notable impact by recording 11 receptions for 125 yards. His performance caught the attention of the New Orleans Saints, leading to a brief contract with the team. However, he was waived shortly after signing.
