In 2022, he transferred to the University of Arizona as a walk-on, where he made an immediate impact. In his first year at Arizona, he started seven of twelve games, recording 34 receptions for 456 yards and two touchdowns. His impressive performance continued into his senior year in 2023, where he recorded 45 catches for 528 yards and four touchdowns. Notably, he finished his college career with 79 receptions, breaking Rob Gronkowski’s school record for career receptions by a tight end.

Unfortunately, on August 26, 2025, McLachlan was waived by the Bengals with an injury designation as part of the final roster cuts.
