Trevis Gipson was born in Cedar Hill, Texas, where he began his journey in football. He attended Cedar Hill High School, where he played under coach Joey McGuire and was part of the 2014 State Championship team. As a two-star recruit, Gipson committed to the University of Tulsa on November 15, 2014, choosing the Golden Hurricane over other offers, including Tennessee State.

During his time at Tulsa, Gipson redshirted his first year and gradually progressed through the ranks, gaining valuable experience in his freshman and sophomore seasons.
