Tristan Wirfs (born January 24, 1999) is an American professional football offensive tackle for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Iowa Hawkeyes and was selected in the first round by Tampa Bay in the 2020 NFL Draft. He has been selected to five consecutive Pro Bowls, establishing himself as one of the premier offensive linemen in the league.
Early Life and Background
Tristan Wirfs was born in Mount Vernon, Iowa, where he attended Mount Vernon High School. He excelled in various sports, including football, wrestling, and track and field. During his high school career, he won the state discus throw as a sophomore and earned scholarships from both Iowa State and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Wirfs committed to the University of Iowa in December 2015, during his junior year. His senior year was particularly notable, as he helped his football team reach the state semifinals, was named an Army All-American, and won multiple state titles in wrestling and track and field. Path to American Football
After high school, Tristan Wirfs attended the University of Iowa, where he played for the Iowa Hawkeyes from 2017 to 2019. As a true freshman, he made an immediate impact by starting seven games at right tackle, becoming the first true freshman to do so in the Kirk Ferentz era.
