Khalil Mack was born on February 22, 1991, in Fort Pierce, Florida. He was raised by his parents, Yolanda, a teacher, and Sandy Mack Sr., a program specialist. Mack has two brothers, Sandy Jr. and LeDarius. His father introduced him to sports at a young age, and while he initially focused on baseball and basketball, he also played Pop Warner football. Mack attended Fort Pierce Westwood High School, where he began playing football after a knee injury curtailed his basketball aspirations. His high school coach, Waides Ashmon, encouraged him to pursue football, promising it would earn him a scholarship. In his only year of high school football, Mack recorded 140 tackles, including eight for a loss, and nine sacks, earning third-team All-State honors in Florida.
