Unfortunately, the 2020 minor league season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which halted his progress. In 2021, he opened the season with the Daytona Tortugas, where he hit .299 with two home runs before suffering a right elbow injury that sidelined him for the rest of the season.
Breakthrough (2022-2025)
After recovering from his injury, Callihan returned to the field in mid-May 2022, making an immediate impact by hitting a home run in his first at-bat. He was later promoted to the Dayton Dragons, where he played well, finishing the season with a combined batting average of .250, seven home runs, and 33 RBI across both teams. In 2023, Callihan continued to develop his skills, playing for both the Dayton Dragons and the Double-A Chattanooga Lookouts. He recorded a batting average of .249 with nine home runs, 58 RBI, and 29 stolen bases over 131 games. His performance in 2024 saw him return to Chattanooga, where he slashed .271/.345/.413 with eight home runs and 25 RBI in 69 games. Following the season, the Reds added him to their 40-man roster to protect him from the Rule 5 draft.
