Steen attended St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, where he played both offense and defense on the football team. In addition to football, Steen was also a member of the track and field team, showcasing his athletic versatility during his formative years.

Steen enrolled at Vanderbilt University in 2018, where he began his college football career. He played four games at defensive end as a freshman, recording one tackle.
