The Philadelphia Eagles have faced numerous challenges with injuries along their offensive line this season, but right guard Tyler Steen remained a constant presence alongside left tackle Jordan Mailata. While Mailata’s All-Pro status eased concerns about his position, some fans questioned Steen’s consistency. Eagles general manager Howie Roseman recently addressed the situation, affirming that Steen is slated to be a starter in 2026 as the team looks ahead.
“We got four Pro Bowl players coming back on our offensive line, which is exciting,”
Roseman stated through Bleeding Green Nation’s Alexis Chassen.
“We feel like we got some young talent there, as well. Tyler Steen will be in his second year as a starter, and we haven’t hit free agency or the draft.”
Evaluating Steen’s Performance and Reliability
Steen’s dependability stands out, especially given the injury woes the Eagles endured with key linemen like Lane Johnson, Landon Dickerson, and Cam Jurgens. He participated in every game last season without missing a snap, an important factor for a unit struggling with health issues.
During last season’s 589 pass-blocking snaps, Steen allowed 36 pressures, two sacks, and one quarterback hit. His main weakness came in penalties, where he was flagged nine times. Pro Football Focus gave him a 71.6 grade overall, placing him 17th among 81 NFL guards, which demonstrates solid although not elite play.
Future of the Eagles’ Offensive Line and Steen’s Potential
Some Eagles supporters have suggested acquiring Mekhi Becton in free agency to strengthen the line, but Steen’s job appears secure for now. Rather than losing his position, Steen’s coaches and fans see potential for growth if he receives more experience. The consensus is that he could develop into a standout offensive lineman with additional time on the field.
The Eagles are expected to concentrate their free agency and draft resources on finding a long-term replacement for Lane Johnson, while Steen remains a dependable fixture at right guard. His steady presence offers stability as the team prepares for the coming seasons.
