Tyson Jost was born on March 14, 1998, in St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, to single mother Laura Jost. He eventually moved to Kelowna, British Columbia, where he lived with his grandparents to attend the Pursuit of Excellence Hockey Academy alongside his cousin. Jost has a younger sister, Kacey, who plays volleyball for the Canada women’s national volleyball team. He has referred to his mother and sister as “the rocks of my life” and was born with color blindness.
Path to Hockey
Jost’s early hockey career began in Kelowna, where he recorded an impressive 56 goals and 109 points in 33 games during his sophomore season. This performance earned him attention from the Western Hockey League (WHL), leading to his selection by the Everett Silvertips at the 7th overall pick in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft. Despite this, Jost opted to play with the Okanagan Rockets of the British Columbia Major Midget League to retain his NCAA eligibility. He led the Rockets in scoring with 44 goals and 88 points, helping them win the BC Hockey Major Midget League Championship.

Early Career (2017–2022)
Tyson Jost made his NHL debut with the Colorado Avalanche during the 2016–17 season after completing his collegiate career with the North Dakota Fighting Hawks. He signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Avalanche on March 29, 2017. Jost quickly adapted to the NHL, scoring his first goal on April 6, 2017, against the Minnesota Wild. Over the next five seasons, he moved between the NHL and the American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Colorado Eagles, while contributing to the Avalanche’s playoff runs.
Breakthrough (2022–2023)
In March 2022, Jost was traded to the Minnesota Wild, where he made an immediate impact by scoring a game-winning goal against the Colorado Avalanche in the final regular season game.
