Xzavion Curry Bio
Xzavion Rashan Curry (born July 27, 1998) is an American professional baseball pitcher who is currently a free agent. He has previously played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Cleveland Guardians and Miami Marlins. After playing for Georgia Tech, he was drafted in 2019 by the Guardians. Curry made his MLB debut in 2022 and had various pitching stints with the Guardians and Marlins before becoming a free agent.
Early Life and Background
Xzavion Curry was born in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He attended Benjamin Elijah Mays High School in Atlanta, Georgia, where he began to develop his skills as a baseball player. Following high school, he continued his education and athletic career at the Georgia Institute of Technology, commonly known as Georgia Tech. During his time there, he played for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, gaining valuable experience and exposure in collegiate baseball.
Path to Baseball
While at Georgia Tech, Xzavion Curry showcased his talent on the mound. In 2019, during his junior year, he pitched 57 and one-third innings, achieving a record of 4–2 with an earned run average (ERA) of 4.08 and striking out 66 batters. His impressive performance caught the attention of scouts, leading to his selection by the Cleveland Indians in the seventh round of the 2019 Major League Baseball draft. After being drafted, he signed with the Guardians but did not play in 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which canceled the minor league season.

Early Career (2021-2022)
Xzavion Curry made his professional debut in 2021 with the Lynchburg Hillcats of the Low-A East. He quickly moved up the ranks, also playing for the Lake County Captains of the High-A Central and the Akron RubberDucks of the Double-A Northeast during the season. Over 19 starts between the three clubs, he achieved an impressive record of 8–1 with a 2.30 ERA and 123 strikeouts over 97 and two-thirds innings, marking him as one of the top pitchers in the minor leagues. His performance earned him a promotion to the major leagues in 2022.
Breakthrough (2022)
On August 14, 2022, Xzavion Curry was promoted to the major leagues by the Guardians to make his MLB debut as the starting pitcher in the second game of a doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers at Progressive Field. He debuted wearing number 71, a number not worn by a Guardians player since 1929. In his debut, he pitched five innings, allowing eight hits and three earned runs while striking out three batters in a 7–5 loss.
Notable Works and Milestones
Following his debut, Curry continued to develop as a pitcher. He was optioned to Triple-A Columbus to begin the 2023 season but quickly found himself in the major league bullpen due to injuries in the Guardians’ rotation.
