The Washington Freedom are a professional Twenty20 cricket team based in Washington, D.C. competing in Major League Cricket. Established in 2023 as one of six inaugural franchises, the team is owned by entrepreneur Sanjay Govil and coached by Ricky Ponting. They won their first Major League Cricket championship in 2024. The team features notable players such as Glenn Maxwell and Steve Smith and is known for its red, white, and blue colors. Plans for a home stadium in Washington, D.C. are underway, with proposals for a venue at the RFK Stadium campus.
