Russell Park’s Transformation: In a decisive move during their latest session on June 11th, the Jefferson City Council approved Caliber Concrete of Adair as the contractor for the installation of two state-of-the-art post-tension concrete pickleball courts at Russell Park. The winning bid of $217,301, mixed with engineering costs from Bolton and Menk totaling $254,301, ensured progress toward enhancing recreational facilities in the community.
City Administrator Scott Peterson highlighted the proactive fundraising efforts that secured $240,000 for the project. Acknowledging a funding gap of $13,726, Peterson outlined a strategic solution involving contributions from the Radebaugh family’s generous donation to recreational initiatives and Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation funds.
“We do have some additional revenues, again these are non-tax dollars, that can be devoted to the project. Several years ago the Radebaugh family had made a nice contribution to the city of some funds to be used for rec purposes. So half of that would be paid by those funds and then half of it would be paid through the city’s allocation of Grow Greene (County Gaming Corporation) funds.” – (scott)
Parks and Recreation Director Denny Hammen commended the dedicated pickleball committee for their role in rallying community support. Their efforts ended in $82,575 from donations and pledges, supplemented by a substantial $118,000 grant from Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation, alongside an initial $40,000 donation from the Radebaugh family.
Construction is slated to commence in August, with completion anticipated by Thanksgiving, marking a significant milestone for pickleball enthusiasts and the broader Jefferson community.
