Utah Tech Conquers the Fifth Regional Championship with Fiery Performance

Utah Tech Conquers the Fifth Regional Championship: In an intense display of athleticism, 79 players faced off under the scorching sun at the 2nd Nevada Super Regional this past weekend. With temperatures soaring into the triple digits, the heat didn’t deter the nation’s elite pickleball talent from stepping onto the courts. Notably, seventeen players boasted a 5.0+ DUPR rating, representing a remarkable 22% of the participants. The stakes were high, with four coveted bids available for teams aiming to secure a spot in the Team Bracket at the upcoming DUPR Collegiate National Championship, set for November 1st-3rd.

Utah Tech Shines with Fifth Regional Title

Adding another feather to their cap, Utah Tech captured their fifth Regional championship, solidifying their dominance in collegiate pickleball. This victory extends their lead to three championships over any other program in the field.

The only blemishes on Utah Tech’s record came from the newly introduced USC team, who managed to snag a game in group play and the semifinals, proving to be worthy competitors.

A Thrilling Semifinal Showdown

The other semifinal matchup featured a nail-biting clash between Utah State and Utah Tech’s second team, resulting in an exhilarating dreambreaker.

This marked the first time that either Utah Tech team has participated in a dreambreaker against another school, though they now find themselves with an 0-1 record as Utah State won to advance to the finals.

Schools Secure Bids to Nationals

From this competitive event, USC, Arizona State University, and the University of Utah earned their bids by reaching the quarterfinals, thanks to their impressive group stage performances. Fresno State rounded out the field by clinching the last bid through a decisive victory in the consolation bracket over the GCU third team.

The excitement isn’t over yet, as these schools will reconvene at the Arizona Super Regional on October 19th-20th, where the final four bids to Nationals will be up for grabs.
