Hailie Rochelle Deegan (born July 18, 2001) is an American professional racing driver. In 2025, she competed in the Indy NXT series with HMD Motorsports, driving the No. 38 entry, before announcing her return to stock car racing in 2026. She is best known for her time in NASCAR, including a multi-year run in the NASCAR Xfinity Series with AM Racing.

Deegan first gained national attention in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West, where she became the first female driver to win a race at that level, taking victories during the 2018 and 2019 seasons. Over the course of her career she has competed in off-road racing, late models, the ARCA Menards Series, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, and the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

Early Life and Background

Hailie Rochelle Deegan was born on July 18, 2001, in Temecula, California. She is the daughter of Brian Deegan, a noted motocross rider, freestyle motocross competitor, off-road racer, and multi-time X Games gold medalist who founded the Metal Mulisha brand. Growing up around motorcycles and dirt bikes, she began riding at age seven and started competing in short course off-road racing after receiving a Trophy Kart for her eighth birthday.

Deegan built an impressive résumé in off-road competition before transitioning to paved racing. In 2009, she won her first race in the SXS Stadium Series’ Trophy Kart class. In 2013, she became the first female driver to win a Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) championship, taking the Junior 2 Karts class title. She added a Modified Kart Regional Championship in 2015 and the Modified Kart National Championship in 2016, and was named the 2016 Lucas Oil Off Road Driver of the Year.

Deegan attended Rancho Christian High School in her hometown of Temecula, California, where she balanced her education with a growing racing schedule. She is the older sister of Haiden Deegan, a professional AMA supercross and motocross racer and the 2023 AMA SMX 250 champion, and she also has a younger brother, Hudson, who has competed in motocross.

Path to NASCAR

Deegan began her transition from dirt to asphalt in 2016, driving legends cars for Rev Racing. She was a member of the NASCAR Drive for Diversity program that year and received the NASCAR Diversity Young Racer award in 2017. In May 2017, she was named to the NASCAR Next class, where she was both the youngest member and the only woman. She also joined Toyota’s driver development program during this period.

In 2017, Deegan made her asphalt late model debut with a pair of CARS Super Late Model Tour starts at Tri-County Motor Speedway and Hickory Motor Speedway. On January 3, 2018, she was announced as a full-time driver in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West for Bill McAnally Racing (BMR), with a part-time schedule in the K&N Pro Series East. She was the only female driver competing full-time in either K&N Series that season.

Deegan made her West Series debut at Kern County Raceway Park on March 15, 2018, finishing seventh and earning praise from 2014 Sprint Cup Series champion Kevin Harvick. She scored her first career top-five finish on May 19 at Orange Show Speedway, then matched her best result of second place at Roseburg, tying the record for the best K&N Pro Series finish by a woman.

Hailie Deegan Career

Early Career (2018-2019)

Deegan’s first two full seasons in NASCAR were spent in the K&N Pro Series West with Bill McAnally Racing, where she quickly established herself as a rising talent. In 2018, she qualified on pole position for the Star Nursery 100 at the Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, becoming the first woman in NASCAR history to win a pole at the K&N level. Later that year, on September 29, she became the first woman to win a race in the K&N Pro Series, taking the victory at the NAPA Auto Parts Idaho 208 at Meridian Speedway with a last-lap pass of teammate Cole Rouse. She closed the 2018 season by clinching the K&N Pro Series West Rookie of the Year award.

In 2019, Deegan returned to BMR for another full West schedule and a partial East schedule, and she also announced plans to compete in six ARCA Menards Series races for Venturini Motorsports. She won the K&N West season opener at the Dirt Track at Las Vegas with another last-lap pass, this time on Jagger Jones, and added a third K&N West victory at Colorado National Speedway. She ended the 2019 K&N West season fourth at ISM Raceway, finishing third in the final championship point standings.

NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (2020-2023)

On October 7, 2020, DGR-Crosley announced that Deegan would make her NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series debut in the team’s No. 17 Ford at Kansas, where she finished one lap down in 16th, the best result in Truck Series history for a woman in a series debut. On October 17, 2020, Ford Performance announced that she would drive full-time in the 2021 Truck Series for DGR-Crosley, with her truck number, No. 1, revealed on January 18, 2021. Deegan had switched from Toyota’s driver development program to Ford’s at the end of 2019, signing a full-time ARCA contract with DGR-Crosley.

Deegan’s best moment of her 2021 rookie Truck Series season came at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway, where she finished seventh, the first Truck Series top-ten finish for a woman outside of a superspeedway. She ended the year 17th in the points and was voted the 2021 Truck Series Most Popular Driver, becoming the second straight rookie to receive the award.

Deegan continued in the Truck Series through 2023, running a partial schedule with David Gilliland Racing and later McAnally-Hilgemann Racing. Across her Truck Series career, she has recorded zero wins, five top-ten finishes, and zero poles, with a best points finish of 17th in 2021 and a 19th-place result in 2023.

NASCAR Xfinity Series (2022-2024)

On October 4, 2022, Deegan announced that she would make her NASCAR Xfinity Series debut in the SS-Green Light Racing No. 07 at Las Vegas, finishing 13th on the lead lap, the best result in Xfinity Series history for a woman in a series debut. On October 5, 2023, she signed a multi-year deal with AM Racing to drive the No. 15 starting in 2024.

Deegan’s 2024 Xfinity season with AM Racing proved difficult, with only four finishes of 20th or better through 17 races and a best result of 12th at Talladega. Following a string of disappointing results, AM Racing replaced her with two-time Cup Series champion Joey Logano for the Chicago street race. On July 8, 2024, AM Racing and Deegan officially announced that they would part ways, ending her full-time Xfinity run. Her final Xfinity Series start was the 2024 Tennessee Lottery 250 at Nashville, and she finished 32nd in the 2024 standings.

She made her Indy NXT debut at the St. Petersburg street circuit, where she finished 14th. She ended the 2025 Indy NXT season 14th in the championship standings, with a season-best result of 11th at Laguna Seca, before announcing her return to stock car racing in 2026.

The return pairs her once again with Chevrolet and a familiar organization from her breakthrough years.

Driving Style and Strengths

Deegan is widely recognized for her aggressive on-track approach, a style she has linked to her motocross background and her family’s off-road racing roots. All three of her K&N Pro Series West wins came after making contact with another car, and she has consistently embraced her reputation for bold moves, bump-and-run passes, and late-race aggression. Her willingness to race hard has drawn both praise and criticism from fellow competitors throughout her career.

Notable Races and Milestones

Deegan’s most significant milestones include her 2018 K&N West victory at Meridian Speedway, the first win by a woman at the K&N level, and her Truck Series top-ten at Gateway in 2021, the first such result for a woman outside of a superspeedway.
