Marcin Tybura Bio

Marcin Tybura (born November 9, 1985) is a Polish professional mixed martial artist who competes in the Heavyweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Nicknamed “Tybur,” he has built a long career as a polished grappler and striker since turning professional in 2011. Before reaching the UFC, he captured gold in M-1 Global, including the M-1 Grand Prix 2013 Heavyweight Championship and the M-1 Global Heavyweight title.

Fighting out of Uniejow, Poland, Tybura trains with Syndicate MMA and Ankos MMA and holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He has been ranked inside the UFC heavyweight top ten and continues to be a recognizable name on the global heavyweight stage.

Early Life and Background

Marcin Tybura was born on November 9, 1985, in Uniejow, Poland, where he still resides. He first stepped into martial arts in 2006 after a friend introduced him to the sport, and within just a few weeks, the desire to test himself in competition began to grow. Although his competitive fire appeared early, he waited several more years before making his professional debut.

Outside the gym, Tybura pursued higher education at the University of Łódź, where he earned a Master’s degree in Physical Education. This academic background gave him a deeper understanding of training, conditioning, and the science behind athletic performance, all of which became important tools in his fighting career.

Path to MMA

Tybura’s path to professional MMA started on the Polish regional circuit. He made his professional debut on November 5, 2011, against Robert Marcok and won by rear-naked choke. He then strung together several more victories, including a unanimous decision win over the future UFC heavyweight Adam Wieczorek. His last regional appearance was a third-round TKO of Krystian Kopytowski at Gladiator Arena 4, a result that set the stage for a move to a major international promotion.

Marcin Tybura Career

Early Career (2011–2013)

During his early career, Tybura competed primarily in Poland and built a reputation as a confident finisher. He trained hard under the guidance of coaches who helped him sharpen his grappling and striking, and his run of consecutive wins quickly drew attention from larger promotions.

M-1 Global Breakthrough (2013–2015)

In 2013, Tybura signed with the Russian-based M-1 Global promotion and debuted as a Heavyweight Grand Prix alternate against Denis Komkin, winning by TKO after Komkin retired at the end of the first round. He followed that with a first-round TKO of Chaban Ka in the Grand Prix Semifinal at M-1 Challenge 41, then beat Konstantin Gluhov by rear-naked choke and Maro Perak by third-round TKO. At M-1 Challenge 50, Tybura submitted Damian Grabowski with a north-south choke in the Grand Prix finals to become the M-1 Heavyweight Champion.

He successfully defended the belt against Denis Smoldarev with a first-round submission, and later took a non-title super-fight against light-heavyweight titleholder Stephan Puetz. Despite a strong start, a cut forced a doctor stoppage and handed Tybura the first loss of his career. In his final M-1 outing, he defended the heavyweight title against Ante Delija, with the bout ending early when Delija suffered a leg break from a checked kick.

Ultimate Fighting Championship Era (2016–Present)

Tybura signed with the UFC in January 2016 and debuted against Timothy Johnson at UFC Fight Night 86, dropping a unanimous decision. He bounced back with a head-kick knockout of Viktor Pešta at UFC Fight Night 92, which earned him a Performance of the Night bonus. He then stopped Luis Henrique at UFC 209 and took a unanimous decision over former champion Andrei Arlovski at UFC Fight Night 111. A loss to Fabrício Werdum and a TKO defeat to Derrick Lewis followed, but Tybura responded with a decision win over Stefan Struve at UFC Fight Night 134.

After back-to-back stoppage losses to Shamil Abdurakhimov and Augusto Sakai in 2019, Tybura steadied his run with a decision over Serghei Spivac at UFC Fight Night 169, a win over Maxim Grishin at UFC 251, and a decision over Ben Rothwell. He then finished Greg Hardy in the second round at UFC Fight Night 183 to claim another Performance of the Night award, and later knocked out Walt Harris at UFC Fight Night: Rozenstruik vs. Sakai, earning yet another Performance of the Night bonus.

His recent form has been a mix of high points and setbacks. A decision loss to Alexander Volkov at UFC 267 was followed by a majority decision win over Alexander Romanov at UFC 278, a decision over Blagoy Ivanov at UFC Fight Night 218, and a TKO loss to Tom Aspinall at UFC Fight Night 224. In 2024, Tybura submitted Tai Tuivasa in the first round at UFC Fight Night 239 for a Performance of the Night bonus, but lost a rematch with Serghei Spivac via first-round armbar at UFC on ESPN 61. He closed 2024 with a TKO doctor stoppage of Jhonata Diniz at UFC 309 and added a decision win over Mick Parkin at UFC Fight Night 255 in March 2025.
