USA’s Dustin Boyer Takes On India Masters and Talks Pickleball Strategy

USA’s Dustin Boyer Takes On India Masters: Dustin Boyer, one of the United States’ premier pickleball players, is preparing to showcase his talent at the PWR India Masters. With a world ranking of 46th in the singles category, Dustin Boyer is set to attract audiences in India, a country he first visited as a tennis player. His journey from the tennis courts to the pickleball arena is not just a change in sport but a remarkable transformation in his athletic career.

From Tennis to Pickleball

Once a competitor in professional tennis tournaments, Dustin Boyer made the pivotal decision to switch to pickleball, a move that has redefined his approach to the game. In just one year, he has established himself by defeating 25 top singles players, including Quang Duong, as per the DUPR rankings. This meteoric rise has solidified his reputation as one of the leading players from the United States.

Exciting Competition Ahead

Now ranked 46th globally, Boyer is gearing up for the PWR DUPR India Masters, a prestigious PWR700 event set to unfold over four days, starting October 24th in Delhi. The Pickleball World Rankings (PWR) were launched earlier this year through a collaboration between Pickleball League Asia Private Limited and The Times Group during a Dubai event in July 2024. This initiative aims to elevate the sport’s profile and attract elite players from around the globe.

Insights on Transitioning

Reflecting on his transition from tennis to pickleball, Boyer noted the distinct differences between singles and doubles play within this dynamic racquet sport. “I started playing pickleball a year ago. For singles, it’s a lot like tennis; for doubles, it’s slow play and different strategies. Took a little time for doubles, so working on it,” he shared in an exclusive conversation with Pickleball Now.

A Taste of India

Boyer’s experiences in India extend beyond the court. He has developed a fondness for Indian cuisine, particularly butter chicken, which he relished during a professional tournament in the country a few years back. “I love Indian food, and the weather is good. I love the warm weather. It’s a bonus for me. I feel great to be here. I was in Delhi for a pro tournament two years ago, and now I am back to play pickleball,” he expressed.

The Popularity of Pickleball

As pickleball rapidly ascends as one of the fastest-growing sports in the United States and worldwide, Boyer attributes its popularity to its accessibility. “It is pretty easy to pick up and a great way to meet people. Just go out there and play. For tennis, it’s a little tougher,” he explained.
