How Megan Fudge’s Family-Fueled Summer of Pickleball Tournaments Ended with Gold, Jet Lag, and a Blog Launch

Megan Fudge’s Family-Fueled Summer of Pickleball Tournaments: As summer fades, APP pro Megan Fudge reflects on a whirlwind of tournaments and travels, while launching her new blog, meganfudgepb.com. Fudge, a seasoned pickleball player, wrapped up her summer journey in style, with her family playing an integral part in the experience. From Chicago to Mumbai and beyond, her summer involved intense competition and personal victories, not just on the court but also in balancing her family life and career.

In early September, Megan Fudge competed in the APP Chicago Open, flying in jet-lagged from Mumbai with her family by her side. Ryler, her husband, fought hard in the men’s singles and doubles brackets, securing 9th place in both events with sheer determination. Megan herself took home a bronze in women’s doubles with her partner Jill, and clinched the gold in the singles final despite her internal struggles, a victory that meant more than just a medal.

A Family Affair: The Joy of Watching Her Kids Compete

One of the biggest highlights for Fudge was watching her children, JR and Lily, compete in the adult 3.0 division at the Chicago Open. Despite dealing with their own jet lag, the siblings played at the top of their game, going undefeated with an 8-0 record and earning gold medals. Fudge beamed with pride, knowing the love of pickleball was a family affair.

Returning home after the tournament, the constant travel and competition took its toll. Megan, Ryler, and their family headed to 30A for some much-needed downtime. The break proved vital, allowing Fudge to mentally reset and rejuvenate with her family. She spent time reflecting on the importance of mental health and the need to prioritize self-care.

Recharging in 30A: The Importance of Rest

Fudge’s training continued during her time in 30A, with her coach DK visiting for a three-day session that prepared her for the upcoming tournaments. The week of rest and focused training reinvigorated Fudge, preparing her for an invitation from Zimmer Biomet to present at the OSET 24 conference in Las Vegas. The event, which brought together over 1,000 orthopedic surgeons, showcased the growing appreciation for pickleball within the medical field.

Though juggling professional commitments with family life can be challenging, Fudge continues to share her passion for pickleball around the world. Her next stop took her back to Chicago, where she played in an exhibition match at a Cubs game, exchanging paddles and gloves with first baseman Michael Buschman.

Held in Telford, the competition boasted over 2,000 participants from around the world, including top players from Europe, Australia, and India.

In a highlight of the weekend, Megan and Ryler teamed up in mixed doubles, representing Franklin and taking home the title after a fierce final match. Fudge also teamed up with Susannah to form “FudgeBarr,” securing a silver medal after a tough semifinal battle against an Australian duo. Throughout the event, she marveled at the growing international presence in pickleball, celebrating the camaraderie that makes the sport unique.

After the tournament, Fudge and her family enjoyed sightseeing in the UK before heading to Turkey for a week of vacation. The pause allowed them to recharge ahead of their next adventure: a tournament in Mumbai.
