The Chicago Blackhawks have announced roster adjustments for their upcoming game in Dallas, recalling winger Nick Lardis and goaltender Drew Commesso from their AHL affiliate Rockford IceHogs. This move aims to address recent team absences and strengthen the lineup.
Nick Lardis Returns for Second NHL Stint This Season
Nick Lardis is making his second recall this season after originally spending nearly six weeks with Chicago. In that initial period, the 20-year-old participated in 21 games, gaining his first NHL experience. During those appearances, Lardis contributed five goals and two assists, averaging 12 minutes and 39 seconds per game on the ice. His performance in Rockford remains impressive, with 18 goals and 14 assists across 35 games in his debut season with the IceHogs, highlighting his offensive development.
Drew Commesso Called Up Again Amid Goaltending Challenges
At 23 years old, goaltender Drew Commesso is also back with the Blackhawks for a second time this season, although his previous stint lasted only three days. During that brief period, he started two games, stopping 55 of 60 shots and securing one win. With Spencer Knight sidelined by illness for a second consecutive game, Commesso is expected to serve as backup to starter Arvid Soderblom. In Rockford, Commesso has played 28 games, posting a 3.07 goals-against average and a .899 save percentage.
Impact of Player Absences on Recall Regulations
Because Spencer Knight remains unavailable, Commesso’s recall qualifies as an emergency move, which does not impact Chicago’s maximum limit of five post-deadline regular recalls this season. However, the promotion of Nick Lardis does count toward this limit unless additional injuries or illnesses arise among forwards. These call-ups reflect the team’s cautious approach as they manage player health and roster depth during a challenging stretch.
“It’s a critical time for the team to stay competitive, and these moves give us needed depth at key positions.” – Coach Derek King
“I’m ready to step in whenever the team calls on me and help the guys secure wins.” – Drew Commesso, Goaltender
