Felix Auger-Aliassime Labels Carlos Alcaraz a ‘Freak’ After Win

Felix Auger-Aliassime described Carlos Alcaraz as a “freak” after his impressive quarterfinal victory at the 2026 Dubai Tennis Championships. The Canadian, currently ranked eighth in the world, highlighted the exceptional talent of the World No. 1 Spaniard while also reflecting on his own strong form, having won 11 of his last 12 matches.

In the quarterfinals, Auger-Aliassime, seeded first, defeated No. 8 seed Jiri Lehecka with a score of 6-3, 7-6(2). During the on-court interview following the match, the Canadian spoke about the growing dominance of Alcaraz and his main rival, World No. 2 Jannik Sinner, in men’s singles tennis.

“Now you have, you know, the freak of Carlos Alcaraz and obviously Jannik Sinner is a great player, and these guys are also obviously paving the way,” Felix Auger-Aliassime, former World No. 5

Auger-Aliassime also discussed his motivation to maintain high standards in his game, which recently earned him the Montpellier title and a runner-up finish in Rotterdam.

“But I’m right there and I try to also put up some great standards,” Felix Auger-Aliassime

Anticipation Builds Ahead of Auger-Aliassime and Medvedev Semifinal Clash in Dubai

Felix Auger-Aliassime is preparing to face Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals of the Dubai Tennis Championships, aiming to reach the final for the second consecutive year. Last year, Auger-Aliassime reached the Dubai final but was defeated by Stefanos Tsitsipas. This year, overcoming Medvedev, a former World No. 1 and 2021 US Open champion, will be critical for his title hopes.

Medvedev’s performance this season has been inconsistent compared to Auger-Aliassime’s steady form. After a strong start with a Brisbane title and a fourth-round appearance at the Australian Open, Medvedev exited early in both Rotterdam and Doha. However, at the Dubai event, he remains undefeated without dropping a set, mirroring Auger-Aliassime’s run.

In their head-to-head rivalry, Medvedev holds a 7-2 lead, but Auger-Aliassime claimed victories in their two latest matches, including the 2025 quarterfinal in Doha where Medvedev retired due to food poisoning.

Meanwhile, the other semifinal will feature fifth seed Andrey Rublev against unseeded Tallon Griekspoor. Their matchup follows the 2023 Dubai final where Medvedev defeated Rublev 6-2, 6-2.

The Growing Influence of Alcaraz and Sinner in Men’s Tennis

The emergence of Carlos Alcaraz as World No. 1 and Jannik Sinner as World No. 2 signals a shift in the hierarchy of men’s singles tennis. Felix Auger-Aliassime’s comments underscore how these young players are setting new benchmarks for excellence. Despite their dominance, Auger-Aliassime remains confident in his ability to challenge the elite, reflecting the competitive depth at the top of the sport.

As the Dubai Tennis Championships progress, the semifinal clash between Auger-Aliassime and Medvedev carries significant implications for rankings and momentum ahead of the season’s upcoming events. The outcomes will likely influence player confidence and shape the narrative around the evolving rivalry among the sport’s leading figures.
