How India’s Pickleball Community Is Revolutionizing Urban Recreation

Indian Pickleball Community’s Growth: Pickleball, a fast-growing sport that combines tennis, badminton, and table tennis, is gaining popularity across India. Once a quiet backyard game, it has now turned into a national trend. The sport is expanding quickly in cities like Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Kolkata, thanks to new platforms like Picklebay.

Why Pickleball Is Catching On

Pickleball is easy to learn and doesn’t need much equipment or physical strength. It is played with a paddle and a plastic ball on a small court, making it a good choice for people of all ages. Many players enjoy it because it is fun, fast, and social. Aaliya Ebrahim, a former tennis player, explained why she prefers pickleball.

“I think pickleball is a more quicker sport. It’s more fun. It’s more quick and there’s a great community for pickleball as well. It’s super fun. Pickleball has been growing very tremendously in the West, especially in Europe. It’s now catching up in India.” – (Aaliya Ebrahim)

Technology Supporting the Growth

Picklebay is India’s first digital platform made just for pickleball. It helps people find courts, play matches, and join pickleball tournaments. The goal is to build a strong, connected pickleball community. Siddhant Jatia, Founder and CEO of Picklebay, talked about how the platform works.

“Using Pickle Bay, we have created like a complete end-to-end ecosystem around the sport. Currently, we’re live in six cities. We have almost every pickleball court listed in these six cities on our tech platform. People can actually go there, make informed decisions about where they need to play, what they need to play, what are the sizes of the courts, what are the charges, etc.” – (Siddhant Jatia)

Players See a Bright Future

Many players believe the sport has a lot of potential. The number of people joining the game keeps growing. India’s No. 8-ranked player Avinash Kumar said,

“I see a good future for pickleball. It is growing very fast. Once people start playing pickleball, they get attracted to it. They always want to play it. They want to continue it. So, the future looks bright.” – (Avinash Kumar)

Looking Ahead

Even though pickleball is growing fast in cities, it still faces challenges. There is not enough coaching or court space in smaller towns, and many people don’t know about the sport yet. Still, the rise of digital tools and growing interest from players suggest that pickleball is here to stay in India.

News in Brief: Indian Pickleball Community’s Growth

Pickleball is growing quickly in India, especially in big cities. Picklebay, a new platform, helps players find courts and connect. Top players like Avinash Kumar and Aaliya Ebrahim see a strong future. Though challenges remain, the sport is gaining popularity as a fun and social game for everyone.
