Kevin Harvick and Will Buxton Preview 2026 INDYCAR Season

The 2026 INDYCAR season kicked off preparations with a final preseason test held at Phoenix Raceway, where twenty-five car-and-driver teams took part in a two-day Open Test. Alexander Rossi secured the fastest time, showcasing strong potential for the upcoming season. This testing event offered an early glimpse into who might emerge as contenders once official races begin.

Harvick and Buxton Share Insights on Team Performances

Kevin Harvick, former NASCAR Cup Series and Daytona 500 champion turned FOX analyst, teamed up with FOX INDYCAR commentator Will Buxton on the inaugural episode of SPEED With Harvick And Buxton to discuss the results from Phoenix and what fans can expect this year. Buxton highlighted the impressive outlook for Ed Carpenter Racing (ECR), the Indy-based team that counts Rossi and Christian Rasmussen among its drivers.

I think, personally, ECR [Ed Carpenter Racing] are looking really, really good for the season,

Buxton said.

Last season, ECR secured its ninth career win and first since 2021 when Rasmussen surged through the field to win the Milwaukee Mile 250. Both drivers showed promise with Rasmussen finishing 13th and Rossi 15th in the 2025 standings. Rossi’s season improved notably with three consecutive top-10 finishes toward the end of the year, raising expectations for 2026.

Racing Calendar and Key Events to Watch

The new season officially begins on March 1 with the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, broadcast live on FOX and the FOX Sports app at noon ET. The following weekend features the Good Ranchers 250 in Phoenix on March 7, continuing the momentum generated during preseason testing.

One of the most eagerly awaited events on the calendar is the Freedom 250 Grand Prix of Washington, D.C., scheduled for August 23. This race is one of three fresh additions to the INDYCAR circuit, and its location in the nation’s capital adds an extra layer of excitement and significance.

When you look at D.C., that has to be one of the premier spots that you could possibly put together,

said Harvick.

I know we’re going to St. Pete first, but … any time you can have the President of the United States backing your race and the things that you do, that’s a big deal no matter what side of the political aisle you sit on.

Frankly, I cannot wait for that,

Buxton added.

Implications for the Season Ahead

With ECR showing competitive form and fresh venues joining the schedule, the 2026 INDYCAR season promises excitement and new challenges. The early momentum from preseason testing and the buzz around marquee races like the Washington, D.C. event suggest it will be a year closely watched by fans and analysts, as drivers like Alexander Rossi and Christian Rasmussen look to build on past performances. Media coverage through platforms like SPEED With Harvick And Buxton will continue to offer behind-the-scenes insights throughout the season.
