TelevisaUnivision has secured exclusive rights to air Major League Baseball (MLB) games in Mexico beginning in 2026, under a new agreement lasting through the 2028 season. This partnership will bring extensive MLB coverage to Mexican audiences, featuring weekend games and postseason matchups on Televisa’s Channel 5, Channel 9, and the ViX OTT streaming platform.
Details of the Broadcasting Agreement
The deal ensures that fans in Mexico will have access to 55 regular-season weekend MLB games each year, broadcast live across TelevisaUnivision’s linear TV channels and digital services. Beyond the regular season, the agreement includes rights to key postseason games played on Saturdays and Sundays during the Divisional and Championship Series. Additionally, TelevisaUnivision will hold exclusive Mexican broadcasting rights to all seven games of the World Series annually.
This package totals over 70 MLB games per year and also features supplementary programming, such as a weekly magazine show that highlights key moments and analyses from the league, adding depth for viewers eager to follow the sport.
Coverage of the 2026 World Baseball Classic
The agreement also encompasses the 2026 World Baseball Classic (WBC), where Mexico’s national team will compete. TelevisaUnivision will air all group stage games involving Mexico, the semi-finals, and the championship final, providing fans with comprehensive access to the tournament.

Currently, 26 players on Mexico’s 30-man WBC roster are active in MLB, including notable figures like Alejandro Kirk of the Blue Jays, Randy Arozarena and Andrés Muñoz from the Mariners, and Jarren Duran representing the Red Sox. Mexico notably reached the semi-finals in the previous 2023 WBC before falling to Japan, who won the championship.
Executives Highlight Strategic Importance of New MLB Partnership
Marcelo Liceaga, senior vice president for sports rights, acquisitions, and commercial partnerships at TelevisaUnivision, expressed enthusiasm about the deal:
“We are thrilled to sign this historic alliance with MLB, which will allow us to bring our audiences in Mexico the most exciting plays of their favorite teams for the next three years. Our commitment to our audiences is to offer the best sports content, and we are grateful that MLB has chosen us as its home.” ?Marcelo Liceaga, Senior Vice President, TelevisaUnivision
Broader Expansion of Sports Broadcasting in Mexico
This new MLB broadcasting agreement complements TelevisaUnivision’s recent extension of coverage rights for the National Football League (NFL) in Mexico, underscoring the company’s aim to strengthen its position as a leading sports broadcaster in the region. The move reflects TelevisaUnivision’s commitment to delivering premier American sports content to Mexican audiences across multiple platforms.
Impact and Future Prospects
The renewed agreement will significantly enhance the accessibility of MLB in Mexico, offering fans a wider selection of games and in-depth coverage of important events like the World Series and the WBC. With many Mexican players competing in the MLB and the nation’s consistent strong performances in international tournaments, this partnership is likely to boost viewership and fan engagement. As the 2026 season approaches, Mexican baseball supporters can look forward to unprecedented access to live MLB action and exclusive content through TelevisaUnivision’s networks and services.
