Chase Dollander Fixes Mechanics, Ready to Shine in 2024

Chase Dollander has identified and corrected a mechanical flaw in his pitching delivery during the offseason, aiming to improve his performance in 2024. The 24-year-old Rockies pitcher focused on refining his form after struggling with command last season, which impacted his effectiveness on the mound.

How the Fix Was Achieved and Its Impact

Dollander explained that his problem stemmed from being

“too coil-y in my legs, in my leg kick,”

which caused him to throw across his body and lose control. Collaborating with Florida-based data scientist and performance coach T.J. Galenti, he was able to correct this flaw “pretty fast.” This adjustment has helped him regain the strike zone with both his fastball and slider, and he is

“getting the ‘vert’ (induced vertical break) back”

on his heater, improving his pitch movement.

Current Status and Outlook for the Season

After recovering from a late-season knee injury last year, Dollander entered Rockies camp healthy and secured a spot in the Opening Day rotation. His rookie season included struggles with a 6.52 ERA and 1.55 WHIP over 98 innings across 21 starts, with notable difficulties pitching at home. The mechanical changes aim to address those issues and help him build consistency moving forward.
