Brothers Unite: Jackson Chourio Shines at Spring Training Opener

The Milwaukee Brewers opened their Spring Training season facing the Guardians, providing a special moment as Jackson Chourio and his younger brother Jaison shared the same ballpark. Although Jaison did not start for Cleveland, he traveled with the team on their roster. Jackson took the spotlight for Milwaukee, batting second and serving as the designated hitter. This rare occurrence highlights the brothers’ parallel journeys in professional baseball during the early 2024 season.

Jaison’s Progression in the Guardians Organization

Jaison Chourio, born in Maracaibo, Venezuela, just over a year after Jackson, is entering his fifth year within the Guardians’ system. While Jackson rapidly advanced through Milwaukee’s minor leagues to reach the majors in 2024, Jaison has steadily developed through the Guardians’ ranks. He began rookie ball soon after Jackson’s minor-league start, gaining experience in the Dominican Summer League and winter leagues in Venezuela in 2022. Last year, Jaison made his High-A debut, appearing in 79 games and hitting with a .235/.380/.284 slash line. Despite not progressing as quickly as his brother, Jaison holds a respectable position, ranked 16th among Cleveland’s prospects according to FanGraphs.

Jackson’s Performance and Upcoming Commitments

In Saturday’s game, Jackson Chourio made an immediate impact by singling in his first at-bat, helping the Brewers to an early 2-0 advantage. He later grounded out to shortstop in his third plate appearance. Pitcher Garrett Stallings started on the mound for Milwaukee, with the team managed by Pat Murphy. Besides his Spring Training duties, Jackson is also preparing to represent Venezuela in the upcoming World Baseball Classic, with pool play scheduled to begin on March 4.

Expanding Opportunities and Future Prospects

While the brothers may not have competed directly in this exhibition game, the increasing presence of both Chourios in major league organizations signals continued growth and promise for their careers. Jackson’s breakthrough into the majors and Jaison’s gradual climb through the minors offer fans an exciting storyline to follow. With the World Baseball Classic approaching and the regular season on the horizon, both players are positioned for important moments ahead in 2024.

“In addition to Jackson’s Brewers obligations, he will also partake in the World Baseball Classic with Venezuela. Pool play in the tournament begins on March 4.” ?Pat Murphy, Manager
