As offseason critiques mount, the New York Yankees have faced widespread comments about returning with nearly the identical roster from last year. On Saturday, Aaron Judge addressed this narrative during an appearance on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM, explaining why he believes the team offers more this season. Judge emphasized the importance of continuity, expressing confidence that the familiar lineup will step up their game in 2026.
Judge Highlights Growth and Team Chemistry
The 33-year-old slugger pinpointed the advantage of having players enter their second year with the Yankees, praising how experience within the clubhouse allows for better performance under pressure. “I love it,” Judge said when asked about the roster.
“That’s one thing I’ve been vocal about, is that people kind of harped on us about ‘Hey, it’s the same squad. They’re not making any improvements.’ But you get a chance to see these guys for the second year in pinstripes. Second year in New York. They know the clubhouse, they know the expectations. They’re only gonna elevate their game.”
Returning Pitchers and a Renewed Starting Rotation
Judge acknowledged the challenge players face during their first year, balancing adjustment to new teammates while facing elite pitching across the league.
“The first year, you’re trying to get comfortable, you’re trying to get to know guys while you’re still trying to face the best pitchers in the game,”
he continued.
“It’s tough. So, I’m excited for those guys coming back and then plus, we got a, we got a chance to get Gerrit Cole back. Some of our starting pitchers are coming back healthy. People say it’s the same team. But I gotta disagree with them a little bit.”
Looking Back on 2025 and Expectations for the New Season
In 2025, the Yankees advanced to the playoffs but were eliminated in the ALDS by the Toronto Blue Jays, resulting in a brief postseason. Despite minimal changes to the roster, the organization shares Judge’s optimism that a combination of player development and healthier pitchers, including Gerrit Cole’s return, could lead to stronger results. This outlook adds anticipation as the team prepares for the new campaign.
Aaron Judge’s Stellar Performance and Leadership Role
Approaching his 11th Major League Baseball season, Aaron Judge remains a pivotal figure for the Yankees. His remarkable 2025 season culminated in winning his third AL MVP Award. Judge led the league with a career-best .331 batting average and recorded a .457 on-base percentage. Additionally, he amassed 179 hits, 53 home runs, 114 RBIs, and contributed 12 stolen bases, underscoring his all-around offensive impact.
