San Diego FC has renewed goalkeeper Pablo Sisniega’s contract, extending his stay with the club through June 2027, with an option to continue into the 2027-28 season. This marks the second time within nine months that the club has locked down a goalkeeper on a multi-year agreement, reflecting their confidence in Sisniega’s contributions.
Performance Highlights and Role on the Team
At 30 years old, Sisniega played a significant role during San Diego FC’s inaugural MLS season in 2025, starting in 11 matches and achieving four shutouts. Initially serving as the backup for CJ dos Santos, he stepped up after dos Santos suffered two injuries, including one during the opening round of the MLS playoffs. Dos Santos is also under contract through 2027, following a previous extension signed last May.
Recent Appearances and Upcoming Matches
Earlier this month, Sisniega was the starting goalkeeper in both of San Diego FC’s matches at the Concacaf Champions Cup. Although he missed the team’s MLS season opener last week due to a red card received in the previous season’s final game, he is expected to return in goal for Sunday’s home match against St. Louis City SC at Snapdragon Stadium.
Club Leadership Praises Sisniega’s Impact
San Diego FC’s sporting director Tyler Heaps, who also recently received a contract extension, emphasized the importance of Sisniega to the team.
“Pablo has been a key player for us on and off the field, and we’re happy to extend him and keep him and his family in San Diego,”
Heaps said. He added,
“He has demonstrated that he can perform in big moments and is an important piece of our goalkeeping group, exemplifying strong leadership and pushing the standards of the group every day.”
Background and Career Milestones
Born to two Mexican Olympians, Pablo Sisniega has made a total of 62 MLS appearances, starting 42 of those matches. His experience and steady presence continue to bolster San Diego FC’s goalkeeping unit as the club builds on its early successes in Major League Soccer.
Upcoming Game Details
The next match featuring Pablo Sisniega is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. this Sunday at Snapdragon Stadium, where San Diego FC will face St. Louis City SC. Fans can watch the game on AppleTV or listen live via 760-AM and 1700-AM (Spanish).
