Marco Reus Extends LA Galaxy Deal Through 2027

Marco Reus, the German midfielder, has finalized a contract extension with LA Galaxy that will keep him at the club through December 2027. The announcement was made public by the Galaxy on Saturday, confirming the 36-year-old star’s continued presence in Major League Soccer after joining the team in August 2024 following a 12-year career at Borussia Dortmund.

Reus’ Impact on LA Galaxy’s Recent Success

Since arriving in MLS, Reus quickly became a pivotal figure in LA Galaxy’s performance, contributing significantly to the team’s record-setting sixth MLS Cup championship in late 2024. His influence is evident from his impressive tally of 22 goal contributions in 42 matches, which includes five goals and nine assists in the most recent season. When fit, Reus has consistently delivered excellent performances, helping to elevate the team’s overall level of play.

Leadership and Experience Praised by LA Galaxy Management

Galaxy general manager Will Kuntz highlighted Reus’ invaluable presence both on and off the field.

“Marco brings an incredible level of quality, experience and leadership to our group,”

Kuntz said.

“His professionalism and standards elevate everyone around him, both on the pitch and in the locker room. We’re excited that Marco will continue to be a part of the Galaxy family.”

Reus’ Achievements Prior to Joining LA Galaxy

Before his move to MLS, Reus enjoyed a highly successful tenure at Borussia Dortmund from 2012 to 2024, scoring 170 goals and earning the title of German Footballer of the Year twice. He was a key player in two Champions League finals appearances and distinguished himself by becoming only the third player in Bundesliga history to reach 100 goals and 100 assists. Additionally, Reus represented the German national team for over a decade, although injuries sadly prevented him from participating in three out of four World Cup tournaments during that period.

Reus’ Role in LA Galaxy’s Current Campaign

Earlier in this year’s season, Reus served as captain in two matches, underscoring his leadership role within the squad. He also contributed with an assist on the Galaxy’s opening goal of the season last week, further demonstrating his ongoing value to the team’s ambitions in Major League Soccer.
