DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Justin Allgaier and Corey Heim earned guaranteed starting positions for the upcoming Daytona 500 after leading the open, non-chartered field during Wednesday night’s qualifying at Daytona International Speedway. Both drivers posted strong lap times that locked them into the race lineup ahead of Thursday’s qualifying races.
Qualifying Performance Highlights
Corey Heim recorded the fastest lap among drivers without guaranteed entries, reaching 183.158 mph in the No. 67 23XI Racing Toyota, putting him seventh overall in the first qualifying round. Justin Allgaier followed, securing 14th place overall with a speed of 182.923 mph in the No. 40 JR Motorsports Chevrolet. Their times ensured they will join 36 chartered drivers and provisional starter Jimmie Johnson on the 41-car starting grid for Sunday’s Daytona 500.
Remaining Race Spots to Be Decided in Qualifying Events
Six drivers, including Chandler Smith, J.J. Yeley, Anthony Alfredo, Casey Mears, BJ McLeod, and Corey LaJoie, will compete in Thursday’s twin 150-mile qualifying races for the two remaining places in the Daytona 500.
