Denny Hamlin Honors Greg Biffle as His NASCAR Gold Standard

Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin recently reflected on his experiences competing against the late Greg Biffle during an interview with Frontstretch media ahead of the 2026 Daytona 500. Hamlin described Biffle as the “gold standard” in NASCAR, recalling their early rivalry in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series and emphasizing the significant impression Biffle left on his career.

In the discussion, Hamlin shared memories from his rookie season in 2004, when he competed in NASCAR’s secondary series for Joe Gibbs Racing while Biffle was already a dominant force driving the #60 Ford for Roush Racing. Biffle’s established expertise and experience made him a challenging competitor. Hamlin explained how difficult it was to beat Biffle and how that high bar shaped his approach to racing.

“I just might. I mean, my favorite memory was racing against him in the O’Reilly series 20 some years ago; I was a rookie. He was a NASCAR, one of the, you know, guys that would come down and race on Saturdays. And just trying to beat that guy was just incredibly difficult, if not impossible. So he was just the gold standard for me when I came into the sport in 2004 on speed.”

Greg Biffle tragically passed away on December 18, 2025, in a plane crash while traveling from North Carolina to Florida. The Cessna C550 he was aboard experienced mechanical failure shortly after takeoff and crashed during an emergency landing attempt at Statesville Regional Airport. Biffle had been flying with family and friends to meet YouTuber Cleetus McFarland.

Hamlin expressed his enthusiasm for the renewed alliance, mentioning the strong integration between National Debt Relief and Joe Gibbs Racing last year, including commercial campaigns and broadcast presence that enhanced the brand’s visibility.

“National Debt Relief is a great partner for our No. 11 team. Last year, their team was incredible with how they became ingrained with Joe Gibbs Racing and how they activated with the commercial spot and during the broadcasts, which grew awareness that National Debt Relief is a brand consumers can trust to help them find a faster path to debt freedom. I’m excited to see how we can continue to grow this partnership and get them to victory lane in 2026.”

Hamlin’s Prospects in the 2026 Cup Series Championship

In the 2025 season, Denny Hamlin narrowly missed securing the Cup Series championship after Hendrick Motorsports driver Kyle Larson overtook him late in the Phoenix race. This year, Hamlin aims to improve his chances as NASCAR reinstates the Chase format, focusing the championship fight on the season’s final ten races. This format change could offer Hamlin a strategic advantage in the quest for a title.

With a competitive roster including drivers like Kyle Larson and a strong team environment at Joe Gibbs Racing, Hamlin is positioned to make a significant impact throughout the upcoming season. His dedication to honoring Greg Biffle’s legacy and his ongoing partnership with National Debt Relief add further motivation as the 2026 season unfolds.
