Beard Motorsports Reacts to Anthony Alfredo’s Daytona DQ Shock

During Speedweeks on Thursday at Daytona, a surprising turn of events unfolded when Anthony Alfredo was disqualified, removing him from the Daytona 500 starting lineup. The team behind Alfredo, Beard Motorsports, has now responded to the disqualification following NASCAR’s post-race inspection.

Alfredo had earned the final transfer slot into the Daytona 500 by finishing 18th in the America 250 Duel 2, outperforming competitors BJ McLeod and JJ Yeley. However, NASCAR’s inspection revealed critical violations on Alfredo’s No. 62 Chevrolet, resulting in a disqualification.

Details of NASCAR’s Inspection and Safety Violations

NASCAR officials found that a transaxle cooling hose was loose, and a driver cooling hose was improperly attached on Alfredo’s vehicle. These infractions, deemed violations of NASCAR’s strict safety and preparation rules, led to a disqualification that could not be appealed due to its occurrence during qualifying rather than a points race.

Brad Moran, NASCAR Cup Series Director, elaborated on the issue:

“These parts have to be fastened properly,”

Moran stated.

“Unfortunately, this one piece wasn’t on the right side, and there was also another hose disconnected for driver cooling.”

Following the ruling, BJ McLeod was advanced into the Daytona 500 field after his car cleared inspection.

Beard Motorsports Expresses Mixed Emotions

Beard Motorsports issued a statement reflecting their sentiments on the situation:

“We are proud of our team and the work they put into this NASCAR program,”

they said.

“Our intent is to make races, contend for wins and race with integrity. We will review what happened and work to make sure we do not have these issues in the future. We are heartbroken for our entire team, our wonderful partners and Anthony and his sweet family.”

BJ McLeod Responds to Unexpected Opportunity

Though McLeod was initially bumped from the race, he embraced the sudden chance to compete. Speaking on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, he shared:

“I want to race my way in, three-wide coming to the checkered flag or something. But I’ll take it however we can get it.”

Reflecting on his 2024 near-miss resulting from aggressive racing tactics, McLeod emphasized the nature of the sport:

“The fans aren’t here to watch people ride around,”

he said.

“We prepared to be here, and now we get to be part of the best stock car race in the world.”

The Broader Impact of Daytona Inspection Rules

The reversal of fortunes from celebration to disappointment within hours highlights the intense scrutiny NASCAR applies even after a race concludes. At Daytona, success is never assured until all post-race tests are passed. For Beard Motorsports and Anthony Alfredo, this disqualification serves as a difficult lesson in precision and compliance under high-pressure circumstances.

Looking ahead, Beard Motorsports has committed to addressing the issues raised and ensuring their program avoids similar pitfalls. Meanwhile, BJ McLeod gets an unexpected chance to compete in one of stock car racing’s most prestigious events.
