Collin Gillespie Emerges as Top Free Agent to Watch in 2025

Collin Gillespie is poised to become a key unrestricted free agent after the current NBA season, drawing considerable interest due to his performance with the Phoenix Suns. According to ESPN front office analyst Bobby Marks, Gillespie’s upcoming free agency represents one of the most important player decisions this summer, as the guard has clearly outperformed his existing contract.

Rising Impact and Career-High Performances Highlight Gillespie’s Value

Currently on a one-year deal worth $2,378,870 fully guaranteed, the third-year pro has demonstrated significant growth. Marks reported that the Suns perform better by +4.8 points per 100 possessions when Gillespie is on the court, reflecting his positive influence on the team’s effectiveness. Over 55 games this season, Gillespie has started 36 contests, averaging career highs in several areas: 13.2 points, 4.7 assists, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game. His shooting efficiency is notable as well, connecting on 43% from the field, 42% from three-point range, and 84.6% from the free-throw line.

Gillespie has also seen his court time more than double from last season, moving from 14 minutes per game to over 28 minutes. Earlier this month, he reached a personal best by scoring 30 points in a single game, while also tying his record with eight successful three-pointers in that performance.

Negotiation Options and Financial Outlook for Gillespie’s Next Contract

The Suns possess Gillespie’s Early Bird Rights, a mechanism that allows them to exceed the salary cap to retain him. This exception enables Phoenix to offer a contract valued at either 175% of Gillespie’s current salary or 105% of the previous season’s league-average salary. As a result, the Suns could propose a four-year deal worth approximately $66.6 million, with a minimum contract length of two years excluding option years.

Despite this financial leverage, Gillespie remains open to offers from other franchises who can present superior market value. This dynamic places Gillespie among the most intriguing free agents heading into 2025, with his future likely to draw strong interest across the league given his upward trajectory.

Developing Talent Around Gillespie Strengthens the Suns’ Depth

Alongside Gillespie, Phoenix’s rookie players continue to show promise in the G League, with general manager Brian Gregory affirming their ongoing development. Additionally, recent acquisition Haywood Highsmith has expressed enthusiasm about contributing his defensive skills to the Suns lineup, highlighting the team’s efforts to build a competitive roster through both emerging talent and strategic signings.
