Josh Oduro Signs Two-Way Contract with Pelicans

The New Orleans Pelicans have officially signed Josh Oduro to a two-way contract, as announced Wednesday. This agreement gives Oduro the chance to make his NBA regular-season debut during the last month of the schedule, highlighting a significant milestone in his career.

Oduro’s Journey Through the G League and College Basketball

Oduro spent the entire current season playing with the Birmingham Squadron, New Orleans’ G League affiliate, after initially being released by the Pelicans last October. Standing 6-foot-9 and weighing 240 pounds, the center posted solid stats with an average of 14.4 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 1.8 assists over 35 games. By signing him, the Pelicans filled the third and final two-way player position on their 18-man roster.

Before turning professional, Oduro wrapped up his college basketball career at Providence, where he averaged 15.9 points and 7.5 rebounds in his single season with the Friars. Earlier, at George Mason, he was recognized twice on the all-Atlantic 10 first team. His move to Providence followed coach Kim English, who transitioned from George Mason to take over the Friars’ program.

Early Years and High School Background

Josh Oduro’s basketball development began at Battlefield High School, where he joined the freshman team initially and later played as a reserve on varsity during his sophomore year. He spent his final two high school seasons at Paul VI in Fairfax, setting the foundation for his collegiate and professional career.

Implications of the New Contract for Oduro and the Pelicans

This contract represents an important step forward for Oduro, providing an opportunity to prove his skills at the NBA level with the Pelicans. Given his consistent performance in the G League and his strong college background, the team is betting on his potential to contribute during the final stretches of the season and possibly beyond. The move also reflects New Orleans’ commitment to nurturing emerging talent through its G League affiliate system.
